Successful illustrator Jackie Besteman needed a site to showcase her portfolio of vibrant and delightful drawings to art directors and editors.

Client:

Jackie Besteman, a print illustrator whose work has appeared in dozens of major magazines and newspapers.

Brief:

The first incarnation of the client's site, while very pleasing in appearance, was a static html assemblage groaning under the weight of its content.

Client provided:

Logo, color scheme, and numerous luminous illustrations.

Jackie's work speaks for itself; it was our job to lead prospective clients through the range of her techniques and subject matter, without forcing unwieldly page-loads upon them.

We cross-referenced each image by client and by subject matter, and placed images in two galleries - one highlighting new work, the other a repository for a full portfolio. Visitors can browse or drill down at will. We also encouraged Jackie to brag a little: her roster of clients is as impressive as her work.

The site is built on the Drupal CMS framework, permitting quick updates, flexible categorization, and limitless room for expansion. We wrote custom gallery code to re-format output from the drupal image module, wrestled some javascript-driven select boxes into place, threw in a few other tweaks, and relied otherwise on drupal's rock solid architecture to do the heavy lifting.
